Organizational Psychology

«Team psychological safety is a shared belief held by members of a team that the team is safe for interpersonal risk-taking — that one can speak up and participate without fear.»

Amy C. Edmondson, Professor at Harvard Business School — paraphrase of her 1999 formulation

Organisations are not made only of structures, processes and goals. They are shaped every day through people, their relationships and their interactions.

Organizational Psychology studies human behaviour in the workplace and the way individual, interpersonal and organisational factors influence professional experience, collaboration and the functioning of an organisation.

With an academic background in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, combined with many years of training in Psychotherapy, I approach the workplace through a broader understanding of the human factor. The link between mental wellbeing and professional life is particularly important, as is the way the quality of relationships, communication, leadership and organisational culture affect both people and the overall functioning of a business.

Working with companies, organisations and professional teams may include

  • Workplace wellbeing and mental health: exploring factors of work-related stress, burnout and psychosocial risks, with the aim of shaping healthy working conditions.
  • Communication and team dynamics: understanding the relationships, roles and patterns of collaboration that affect the everyday functioning of teams.
  • Leadership and human relations: strengthening skills in communication, conflict management and effective collaboration between managers and employees.
  • Organisational culture and change: exploring the factors that shape the working climate, the sense of belonging and adaptation during periods of organisational change.
  • People development: supporting initiatives that strengthen personal and professional growth, active participation and the use of employees’ potential.

Every collaboration is shaped by the needs, goals and particular culture of the organisation or business. The approach may include consulting meetings, needs assessment, team-level interventions and the design of actions to strengthen workplace wellbeing and collaboration.

Because behind every organisation there are people. And understanding people is an essential precondition for creating healthy, functional and sustainable working environments.
